Taiwan-based design service provider Global Unichip has set its annual sales goal at NT$10 billion (US$308 million) for 2008, and will triple the figure in five to six years, according to company vice chairman and CEO KC Shih.
Shih, speaking at a ceremony marking the company's tenth anniversary, said Global Unichip is aspiring to take its annual sales to US$1 billion in the next five to six years, and reap in profits amounting to its paid-in capital of NT$1.15 billion in 2009. The company's revenues totaled about NT$7 billion in 2007.
Company chairman FC Tseng, who is also vice chairman of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the biggest shareholder of Global Unichip, said he believes Global Unichip will grow fast in the next 10 years.
TSMC chairman Morris Chang said the foundry and the design service provider remain loyal partners to each other since TSMC started investing in Global Unichip five years ago. TSMC currently owns 38% of Global Unichip, Chang said.
Chang said the strategic partnership between the two companies is not just an investment in financial terms, but also an investment that raises TSMC's added-value.
Industry sources indicated that Sony, Samsung Electronic and Sharp are three of Global Unichip's most important clients.
But Global Unichip declined to disclose information concerning specific clients and orders. It has only given a cautiously optimistic outlook for the first quarter of 2008, saying orders are unlikely to see major decreases.
