Taiwan maker Min Aik enjoys growing orders for external HDD components

Min Aik Technology, a leading maker of hard disk drives (HDDs) components, have had increasing orders for parts for external (portable) HDDs mainly from Western Digital (WD) since 2006, and the increase will continue this year due to orders from new clients, according to industry sources.

As the global demand for external HDDs is on the rise, Min Aik not only expects WD to place more orders but has also received orders from Seagate and sent sample products to Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (HGST) and Samsung Electronics for certification, the sources indicated.

Min Aik has a factory in Taiwan and seven more in Thailand, Malaysia and China. To minimize overall production, Min Aik will begin stampings for voice coil motors at the Taiwan factory this year. In addition, the company plans to expand the production capacity of a factory in Thailand to meet growing order volumes.

Min Aik recorded revenues of NT$9.82 billion (US$298 million), pre-tax profits of NT$631 million and net earnings per share of NT$5.07 for 2006.
