VIA Technologies today announced top-to-bottom chipset solutions supporting the transition to socket AM2 by AMD.
To accommodate the latest platform features and rising system bandwidth requirements, AMD's transition to Socket AM2 will enable a new wave of innovation on AMD64 based systems featuring AMD Virtualization and high-performance DDR2 memory. Supporting this transition, VIA offers a wide range of chipset solutions that are fully compatible with Socket AM2 platforms, including the VIA K8M890, ideal for Windows Vista-ready systems, and the VIA K8T900 performance chipset with dual X8 PCI Express support.
Optimized for a complete range of AMD Opteron, Athlon 64, Athlon 64 FX, and Sempron processors, VIA K8 Series chipsets include the VIA K8T900 and K8T890 discrete solutions as well as the VIA K8M890 integrated graphics chipset.
VIA's latest chipset the VIA K8M890, is designed to meet the requirements of the upcoming Windows Vista operating system and rising high definition video requirements. Integrating support for the latest PCI Express graphics cards and high speed peripheral devices, the VIA K8M890 chipset forms a powerful platform for leading OEMs and System Integrators looking to build the next generation of mass market PCs.
In combination with the latest VIA VT8251 South Bridge the VIA K8 Series chipsets offers support for an additional two x1 PCI Express connections, four SATA 3.0Gb/s connections with VIA V-RAID support, and the VIA Vinyl Audio suite including support for High Definition audio.
