BenQ looks to expand its display business in 2H

With the goal of becoming the top display vendor in the world, BenQ will aggressively expand its LCD TV business in Japan and Europe in the second half of this year, according to the company.

The company plans to increase the proportion of its revenues coming from the Japan market to 2% by year-end, up from 1% last year. BenQ aims to double its LCD monitors shipment to Japan this year and reach 200,000 shipments, according to the Japanese-language Nikkei Net news service. In addition, the company expects to ship 7,000 projectors in 2005, accounting for 3% of the Japan market, and BenQ plans to ship LCD TVs to Japan starting in 2006, the report stated.

BenQ will also begin volume production of LCD TVs at its assembly plant in The Czech Republic in October, which will help the company boost its sales in Europe.

BenQ currently delivers LCD TVs to Europe, US, Canada and China.
