BenQ: Global LCD monitor market to grow to 95-100 million in 2005

With the market continuing to see strong demand for LCD monitors, BenQ recently raised its global LCD monitor shipment forecast for this year to 95-100 million units, up from 80 million units, according to company general manager Scott Huang.

Last year, about 67.50 million LCD monitors were shipped globally, according to market sources.

Other research firms such as DisplaySearch and DigiTimes Research have also seen a surge in demand and revised their forecasts upward. DisplaySearch has increased its forecast for LCD monitors to 99.1 million, up from 97.9 million while DigiTimes Research estimates that the global market may reach 94 million units by the end of year.

In related news, BenQ will roll out 19-inch and 20-inch LCD widescreen monitors in the second half of 2005. The company currently has products in the 17-inch and 23-inch widescreen segments.
