With rising demand for LCD monitor and LCD TV applications, Novatek Microelectronics expects its revenues to increase 10% sequentially this quarter, though its gross margins may slide due to falling LCD driver IC prices, according to the company.
Benefiting from strong shipments of LCD driver ICs for 19-inch LCD monitors, Novatek had revenues of NT$6.147 billion in the second quarter, up from NT$5.096 billion in the first quarter. Gross margins in the second quarter were also up a bit at 29.5%, up from 28% in the first quarter. Through the first six months of this year, the company generated revenues of NT$11.24 billion, up 30% from the same period last year.
Novatek shipped a total of 103 million LCD driver ICs last quarter, up from 75 million units in the first quarter, company pointed out.
In related news, overall LCD driver IC shipments from major Taiwan-based IC design houses including Novatek, Himax, DenMOS Technology and Winbond totaled 198 million units last quarter, up 23% sequentially from 161 million units shipped in the first quarter, sources indicated.
