Three major clusters of China's humanoid robot industry have taken shape; breakthroughs in humanoid robot mobility achieved, but practical applications remain limited .
Abstract

China is the leader in terms of the number of humanoid robot integrators. DIGITIMES figures show that as of 2024, China accounted for 49% of the world’s humanoid robot integrators, compared to 17% for the US  and 10% for Japan.

Chinese makers such as Unitree Robotics, AgiBot, and Ubtech Robotics, have become important players in the global humanoid robot market. The humanoid robot industry in China has developed rapidly under strong government support, with three major clusters having taken shape in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, and Pearl River Delta areas.

Chinese humanoid robot development focuses on powerful motion control capabilities, highlighted by the recent launch of the world's first front-flipping humanoid robot by EngineAI Robotics Technology. However, most of the humanoid robots developed by Chinese makers still rely on remote control or preset programs to perform complex tasks, lacking significant autonomous decision-making capability and adaptability, so their actual application is still limited, making it difficult for them to be widely adopted.
