AU Optronics (AUO) has disclosed it shipped TFT-LCD panels with total display area of 2.084 million square meters in October, shrinking 4.3% sequentially.

AUO has reported consolidated revenues of NT$30.384 billion (US$1.09 billion) for October, decreasing 7.93% sequentially but increasing 18.11% on year, and those of NT$308.035 billion for January-October grew 42.51% on year.

While prices for LCD TV panels have been dropping since July 2021, AUO's third-quarter 2021 operation was relatively little impacted because the company has been shifting focus to large-size high-end TV panels for which prices slipped less than those for small- to medium-size ones.

Besides large-size 8K high-refresh-rate bezel-free TV panels, AUO has developed customized panels for use in industrial control, medical care and retail operation.

For panels to be shipped in fourth-quarter 2021, AUO expects total display area to decline 1-3% sequentially and the average selling price (ASP) per square meter to fall 4-6% due to continued weak demand for TV panels.
