A number of Taiwan-based IC vendors have revealed that they will be able to reach the high-end sales targets set for the third quarter of 2012 as they have received more orders from their clients in China recently due to the approach of the October 1 holidays.

An upsurge in demand for handset solutions from China-based brand and white-box smartphone vendors has even caused a shortage in chipset supply from MediaTek, the sources noted.

Vendors of LCD driver ICs, touch controller ICs and analog ICs have seen their order visibility extend significantly due to an influx of orders from PC and LCD TV makers, the sources added.

Analog IC maker Richtek Technology and Global Mixed-mode (GMT) Technology have experienced a sharp increase in orders recently, and are expected to see their revenues grow 6-7% sequentially in the third quarter, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.

Since OEM/ODM makers are ready to launch Ivy Bridge-based ultrabook models and Windows 8-based PCs, the current order momentum may continue in the second half of the fourth quarter, the paper added.
