Chimei Innolux (CMI), AU Optronics (AUO), Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) and HannStar Display shipped a total of 67.882 million large-size TFT-LCD panels (9 inches and larger) in second-quarter 2012, increasing by 7.8% on quarter but decreasing by 4% on year, according to Digitimes Research findings.
Global demand for LCD TVs, monitors and notebooks remained weak in the second quarter. Competition from China-based makers in the 26- and 32-inch TV segments in the China market was growing, while CPT and HannStar reduced production of large-size panels.
The four Taiwan-based makers together occupied 36.0% of the global large-size panel shipments in the second quarter.
