The application of IEEE802.11ad, a wireless multi-gigabit communication technology standard being specified by Wireless Gigabit Alliance (WiGig) through cooperation with Wi-Fi Alliance, is expected to come into demand beginning 2013, according to CEO and co-founder Tal Tamir for Israel-based Wilocity which has been actively promoting 802.11ad.
802.11ad is a new use of Wi-Fi technology, featuring docking technology to enable simultaneous connectivity with several devices, Tamir pointed out.
Wilocity has been seeking cooperation with vendors, ODMs and retail channels to adopt its 802.11ad chip solutions for mobile devices or external docking devices, Tamir indicated. Wilocity is looking to business opportunities from ultrabooks, Tamir said.
Wilocity has had its 802.11ad chip solutions in certification and expects to kick off volume production in the fourth quarter of 2012, Tamir indicated.
