PC shipments may only see slight sequential growth in 2Q12

As Dell reported weaker-than-expected results for its fiscal first quarter 2012 (February-April), some PC brand vendors pointed out that their orders from Europe's retail channel have suddenly turned weak and as a result, their shipments in the second quarter may not grow as strongly as expected.

As for whether their shipments will rebound in the second half, the traditional peak season, the vendors are also conservative as the current market status has become rather uncertain.

However, notebook ODMs still believe the shipment ratio for the first and second halves will reach 4:6, but with the possibility that the bond crisis in Europe may worsen, brand vendors are starting to turn conservative about market demand.

Dell announced results of US$14.4 billion for the fiscal the first quarter of 2012, a drop of 4% on year with net profit down 33% on year to reach only US$635 million. EPS was US$0.36.
