Sunshine PV, the CIGS thin-film solar business unit of Solartech, recently obtained certification from Germany-based TUV Rheinland.
Sunshine PV adopts turn-key equipment from Germany-based equipment provider Centrotherm and has been developing CIGS thin-film solar products since 2007. Obtaining the TUV certification means the firm is ready to begin manufacturing CIGS thin-film solar modules, said industry sources.
TSMC Solar is said to have obtained TUV certification for its CIGS thin-film solar modules. The firm began construction of its plant in 2010 and obtained registration in 2011. Industry sources pointed out that the firm will begin manufacturing solar products in 2012. Nevertheless, CIGS technology is currently under development.
Non-mainstream solar technologies such as CIGS thin-film were marginalized in 2011 when demand was low and prices for mainstream technology dropped significantly.
