China Mobile has upgraded its traditional voice service with generative AI, cybersecurity, and high-definition video, as China’s telecom sector pushes basic communications toward more intelligent offerings. The revised service was rolled out recently and is designed to give users a smarter calling experience without changing their phone or SIM card.
According to China Mobile, the new service is built on mature VoLTE and VoNR voice network architectures, with large AI models, high-definition video technology, and security software layered on top. The company said the upgrade adds core functions directly to the existing dialing interface and can be activated through an app.
The service includes video calls with resolution up to 1080p, AI noise reduction, and real-time call subtitles for traditional voice calls. China Mobile said the subtitle function was added to better serve older users and people with hearing impairments, while the video and audio tools are intended to make calls more immersive.
To reduce fraud risk, the company also introduced an AI anti-fraud feature that blocks risky calls in real time. Other additions include multi-party calling, a visual call menu, and DC data transmission, which turns calls into a visual and interactive window.
China Mobile said the applications have transformed traditional voice calling from a single-function service into a new integrated information service platform that combines HD video, smart features, and applications. The company framed the move as part of a broader shift in communications services toward more inclusive, intelligent offerings.
