Typhoon Danas made landfall in Chiayi on the evening of July 6, 2025, marking the first typhoon to hit Chiayi in over a century. The Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan regions experienced severe damage from the storm.
However, the Southern Taiwan Science Park (STSP) Bureau reported that the science park fortunately escaped major harm. Apart from a few fallen trees in the Tainan and Kaohsiung parks, there were no other damages, and operations continued as normal.
While the area avoided typhoon devastation, a fire broke out the following morning. At 7:50 am on July 7, a fire occurred at HannStar's touch sensor factory located within STSP. Upon receiving the alert, the fire department immediately dispatched teams to control the blaze.
HannStar stated that the touch sensor plant had already cleared all related manufacturing equipment, with no active production lines or personnel present at the time. Additionally, no hazardous materials were stored on-site. The exact cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the fire department.
