Asia Pacific Telecom (APT) has teamed up with metaverse platform developer XRSpace, along with over 20 players in the metaverse supply chain, to launch Taiwan's first multifunctional metaverse shared space Xland.
With the metaverse still in its infancy, APT chairman Chen Peng said the company is expanding its business into the metaverse industry by introducing the Xland platform and exploring cross-industry partnerships. The company hopes to promote the use of Xland primarily through metaverse games and social media campaigns in the beginning, before developing more business models, he explained.
Hsu Chih-Lan, vice general manager of APT's meta product division, pointed out that Xland can be accessed through individual and corporate users' mobile devices, and that generation MZ will be the main target clients for APT's metaverse solutions. APT will hold activities and performances on Xland, with the hope to establish a shared economy within the metaverse industry, she said.
In addition to launching avatars and limited NFT (non-fungible token) products on Xland, APT is also planning to optimize the platform by adding new functions, such as virtual wallet, gamification, personal spaces, Avatar DIY, and online shopping in the future.
According to APT, the metaverse supply chain can be broken down into seven layers: 5G infrastructure, wearable device interface, decentralization, spatial computing, creator economy, discovery, and experience. The company said its partners in the metaverse ecosystem will serve as a firm foundation for its Xland platform.
Meanwhile, Chen stressed that APT will stick with its current metaverse strategies that were made before its proposed merger with Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET) was announced. He added that APT's success in the metaverse market will pave way for the company to expand its business into other non-telecommunications industries.
