Thailand 5G smartphone shipments hit new high in 3Q21

Thailand's smartphone shipments decreased 14% on-year in the third quarter this year but shipments of 5G models hit a new high, according to Counterpoint Research. COVID infection also peaked in the third quarter in Thailand.

Research analyst from Counterpoint Research pointed out that telecom infrastructures and 5G network are improving, bringing 5G smartphone shipments to a record high. Overall, there was limited supply and a lack of consumer confidence.

Samsung took a 22% market share for the third quarter. Oppo and Xiaomi each took 17%. Sales of low-end products such as the Realme C series and Samsung Galaxy A02 increased.

Online sales gained a higher market share than in the second quarter, rising by 24%, and are expected to continue growing in the fourth quarter. Shopee, Lazada, and JD Central are among the top online retailers.

For the fourth quarter, sales are likely to recover from the pandemic.
