China-based NIO sold 3,740 electric vehicles (EV) in June, hiking 179% on year, according to industry sources.

The sales consisted of 1,264 ES8 EVs and 2,476 ES6 ones, with the accumulative sales volume for the former since sales began in June 2018 reaching 22,938 cars and that for the latter since sales began in June 2019 reaching 23,144 ones, the sources said.

During first-quarter 2020, NIO sold 10,331 EVs, growing 191% on year and exceeding the original expectation of 9,500-10,000 units.

In first-half 2020, NIO raised funds totaling US$1.970 billion, consisting of loans of US$435 million, additional paid-in capital of US$492.7 million via issuing new shares, and additional shareholders' investment of CNY7.356 billion (US$1.042 billion).

NIO has been using a factory of China-based Anhui Jianghuai Automobile for setting up its own EV production capacity. NIO plans to expand monthly production capacity from 4,000 EVs at present to 4,500-5,000.
