IC testing labs gaining from China homegrown chips development

China has renewed its campaign to cut reliance on US suppliers of crucial semiconductor components following the easing of the coronavirus spread in the country, showing strong demand for chipsets R&D support and testing and verification services from partners in Taiwan, according to industry sources.

Chinese clients have sharply reduced the ratios of imported chips solutions from the US for their new offerings and made more purchases from Taiwanese IC designers, which in turn has driven up business opportunities for Taiwan's IC testing and verification labs, the sources said.

Integrated Service Technology (iST), Materials Analysis Technology (MA-tek) and Sporton International have all seen clear order visibility throughout the second quarter for their testing and certification services associated with advanced foundry and packaging for a variety of new RF, ASIC and AI chips solutions, the sources indicated.

The sources continued that the increasingly complicated HPC chipsets require the support of advanced foundry and packaging processes, which will necessitate advanced IC testing and verification services that will take longer to complete, significantly boosting profitability for service labs.
