China-based LED makers are relying on fine-pitch RGB LED displays as a main source of business growth, with global market demand rising about 40% in 2019, according to industry sources.

Fine-pitch RGB LED modules that can be stacked into seamless screens have stronger appeal in the large-size displays maket than LCD ones that cannot offer seamless solutions, although the latter's prices are falling, the sources said.

Currently, pitches for indoor fine-pitch RGB LED displays are mainly below 2.0mm, with 1.0mm becoming a mainstream specification, while those for outdoor models are 2.5mm, the sources noted.

Several Chinese makers have been making fine-pitch RGB mini LED displays with pitches of 0.5-0.6mm, the sources indicated. Leyard Optoelectronic showcased 8K fine-pitch RGB mini LED display technology featuring fast HDR at Integrated Systems Europe 2020 in Amsterdam during February 11-14.

According to China-based Gaogong Industry Research Institute (GGII), China's production for fine-pitch (pitches of 2.0mm and below) RGB LED displays in 2019 is estimated at CNY11.4 billion (US$1.65 billion), taking up 18.91% of the total production for all types of LED displays and growing over 40% on year.

Qiangli Jucai Opto-Electronic Technology was the largest maker in 2019, followed by Leyard, Unilumin Group, Shenzhen Absen Optoelectronic and Shanghai Sansi Electronic Engineering, GGII noted.
