IC materials distributors gaining from clients advancing inventory build-up

Semiconductor firms in Taiwan and China have advanced the stocking of materials amid uncertain development and impacts of the global coronavirus spread, allowing materials distributors including Topco Scientific and Niching Industrial to score significant revenues for the first two months of 2020, according to industry sources.

Topco saw its January-February revenues rise 24.81% on year to NT$5.61 billion (US$186.14 million). The company attributed the growth partly to increased shipments of wafer silicon to foundry houses in Taiwan and China looking to ready sufficient inventory of materials in advance to support rebound in foundry demand after the epidemic eases.

IC packaging materials distributor Niching's revenues for the first two months of the year increased 12.43% on year to NT$1.35 billion, and its first-quarter revenues are expected to expand 5-10% from a year earlier.

The company noted that its clients in Taiwan's semiconductor and optoelectronics sectors have maintained normal production despite the epidemic, with February shipments of packaging materials alone surging 55% sequentially as a result.

Chemical materials distributor Topco Technologies expects its shipments to clients in China to pick up significantly in March as the clients are gradually resuming production.
