Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City jointly developed by Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) was inaugurated on December 16, becoming a smart ecosystem and hub for developing innovative green energy technologies covering PV and wind power generation, energy saving, green building and smart power grid, according to MOEA.
Formosa Plastics, Motech Industries, Hanbell Precise Machinery, Dyna Rechi and Israel-based SolarEdge Technologies are among the 20 initial enterprises stationed or to be stationed in the city, MOEA said.
Formosa Plastics has cooperated with government-sponsored Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) to develop dye-sensitized solar cells and has reached an energy conversion rate of 16%, the company said. Formosa Plastics is setting up a trial production line with annual capacity of 120,000 dye-sensitized solar cells in the city.
Motech has also cooperated with ITRI in developing monocrystalline silicon TopCon (tunnel oxide passivated contact) solar cells and aims at an energy conversion rate of 23.1%, the company indicated, adding that it is setting up a trail production line in the city.
Hanbell, the globally second largest maker of screw compressors, has cooperated with ITRI to develop modular DC variable-frequency scroll compressors for use in air conditioning systems of railroad and subway coaches as well as electric buses, and will set up a trial production line with annual capacity of 10,000 units in the city.
Dyna Rechi will set up an automated trial production line for permanent magnet brushless DC motors jointly developed with ITRI in the city.
SolarEdge will set up facilities to test solutions for optimizing PV power-generating systems and experiment R&D results of integrating PV power-generating facilities, other power sources and energy storage systems.
In addition, LED light supplier TQ Technology, biomass-based power generator Taiwan Sugar Corp., offshore wind power generation engineering consultant Cheng Da Environment and Energy, PV power generation inspection service provider LiveStrong Optoelectronics, power management solution provider Tatung, reuse of retired battery planner Mobiletron and France-based floating PV power-generating station undertaker Ciel & Terre International are considering establishment of operational bases in the city.
