Silicon wafer shipments set another record high

Worldwide silicon wafer area shipments reached their highest levels for the second consecutive quarter in the second quarter of 2018, according to SEMI.

Silicon wafer area shipments totaled 3.16 billion square inches in the second quarter of 2018, SEMI disclosed. The shipments represent increases of 6.1% on year and 2.5% sequentially.

"The second calendar quarter of the year typically enjoys a volume increase over the first quarter," said Neil Weaver, chairman SEMI SMG and director, Product Development and Applications Engineering of Shin Etsu Handotai America. "This quarter is no exception. Continued solid demand is driving record wafer volume shipments."
