Asustek is looking to raise its share in the Southeast Asia notebook market to 30% in 2016 to boost its overall notebook shipments in Asia Pacific to 2.5 million units in the year, up 25% from 2015, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report.

Asustek has been expanding its reach to Southeast Asia retail channels, especially in Indonesia, and with the launch of new notebooks, the Taiwan-based brand vendor is planning to achieve 40% share in the country's notebook market in 2016, the paper said.

Asustek will ship over one million notebooks in Indonesia in 2015 and is aiming to ship 1.3 million units in 2016. Asustek was the largest notebook vendor in the country in the first half with a 36-37% market share, noted the paper citing research firm figures.

Asustek was also the largest notebook vendor in Southeast Asia, shipping two million notebooks in the first half with a 25% market share.

Currently, notebooks are selling better than tablets in Indonesia and the country's notebook replacement demand is also stable. Several brand vendors are mainly pushing tablets with phone functionality in Indonesia, but demand for such devices is gradually weakening and ASPs are only around US$40-50.
