ASRock, a brand motherboard subsidiary of Pegatron Technology, reportedly will supply server motherboards to China-based Alibaba with related orders expected to start contributing revenues in the second half, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.
With Alibaba's orders, ASRock is expected to achieve profitable operation by 2016, the sources noted.
Currently, the brand motherboard business is still the main revenue contributor of ASRock and its embedded/server motherboards as well as barebones for system integrators are still not yet able to provide stable incomes. With the entry into Alibaba's supply chain, ASRock may achieve break-even operation as early as the third quarter.
ASRock established its server motherboard affiliate in April 2013 and has been striving for orders for server and industrial PC motherboards and forming partnerships with system integrators. Prior to Alibaba, ASRock already has received orders from about 10 mid-size clients.
ASRock's server affiliate recently unveiled its latest data center infrastructure management (DCIM) server solutions using Intel's Atom or Xeon processors as well as 1U4/2U8 series products for Hadoop or datacenter applications. The company also unveiled a motherboard supporting USB 3.1 Type-C connection.
