IC packager Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE) has purchased machinery and equipment from Advantest and Premtek International for a total of about NT$1.31 billion (US$41.75 million), according to filings issued by the company with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE) on February 25.

ASE COO Tien Wu said previously that the company's capex for 2015 will be slightly lower than the 2014 level. Half of ASE's 2015 capex will be used for IC packaging, 15% for testing and the remaining 35% for its EMS business, according to Wu.

For 2015, ASE expects its capability in the advanced packaging and SiP (system-in-package) areas to drive the company's growth. ASE's SiP business is also set to contribute 30% to the company's overall revenues in 2015 from 18% in 2014, Wu noted previously.
