LTE broadcast may be widely adopted for mobile TV services, say Taiwan makers

LTE (Long Term Evolution) broadcast technology using eMBMS (enhanced multimedia broadcast multicast service) standard is likely to be widely adopted for delivering mobile TV services, as Verizon Wireless in the US, Vodafone in Europe, Telstra in Australia and Korea Telecom in South Korea have undertaken testing in preparation for commercialization, according to Taiwan-based handset supply chain makers.

The adoption of DVB-H in Europe, MediaFLO in the US and CMMB in China to deliver mobile TV services have not substantially succeeded, the sources indicated. But LTE broadcast technology enables telecom carriers to broadcast mobile TV content through LTE FDD or LTE TDD networks and Qualcomm has offered LTE solutions supporting LTE broadcast, the sources said.
