Taiwan's National Communications Commission (NCC) has approved the investment proposed by Vee TIME, a WiMAX operator in the southern region of Taiwan, for a 72.43% stake of Vmax Telecom and a 100% stake of Tatung InfoComm, WiMAX operators in northern and southern Taiwan, respectively, according to NCC.

Vee TIME's investment in the two operators is part of a bid to become a WiMAX operator for the whole Taiwan. However, NCC stressed that Vee TIME, Vmax and Tatung InfoComm each have to continue to establish networks to reach the required 70% coverage of the population in the service regions.

As of the end of October 2012, there were 136,700 WiMAX subscribers in Taiwan, NCC indicated.
