Chimei Materials is looking to bump up its profits in the second half of this year by providing polarzing films for use in 50-inch TV panels, according to industry sources.
Chimei Materials was largely focused on polarizing film for use in monitors in the past but is now switching its focus to using the film in TV panels due to increasing demand from its main customer Chimei Innolux (CMI). CMI started shipping new 50-inch TV panel products back in June and is currently awaiting approval for a new series expected to sell well when released by the end of this year, added sources.
Additionally, Chimei Materials is investing more into research and development for materials used in small- and medium-sized panels and expects the panels to increase its proportion of small- and medium sized panel income in the second half, said sources.
Chimei Materials also plans to hold a shareholders meeting on September 6 to discuss its third quarter earnings as well as its outlook for the fourth quarter.
