LCD panel production cuts causing insufficient supply to monitor vendors

, Taipei
0

LCD panel makers' production cuts, coupled with the launch of new monitor screen sizes, have already resulted in insufficient supply for some brand name monitor vendors, according to industry sources.

The sources expect that tighter supply will slow the fall of monitor panel prices in the second half of August, and prices should be able to stabilize by the end of the year.

Monitor panel prices have been falling fast. Prices for the 17-inch segment, for example, have plunged 18% over the past two months.

Panel makers AU Optronics (AUO), Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) and LG Display have all announced production cuts in the wake of weaker-than-expected demand in a market hit by a global economic downturn.
