Hynix Semiconductor announced that its joint venture (JV) with STMicroelectronics in Wuxi, China, has signed a contract to sell the equipment of its 8-inch C1 line to a Chinese conglomerate, China Resources Holdings.
Hynix said it has considered various ways to utilize existing 8-inch wafer production facilities in accordance with the plan of expanding 12-inch wafer capacity. In terms of boosting efficient lines, some are to be upgraded while others are planned to be sold. The selling of chip equipment was also accomplished as a part of this plan, Hynix explained.
Under China Resources Holdings, there is China Resources Logic, which listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKSE) from 1994. Numerous semiconductor-related companies are under China Resources Logic with most of them located at Wuxi. CSMC Technologies of China, which was said to be converting its 6-inch wafer fabrication facilities to 8-inch, is one of those listed under China Resources Logic.
