Taiwan-based LCD backlight unit (BLU) makers, including Radiant Opto-Electronics, Coretronic and Kenmos Technology, had mixed sales performance in July, according to the companies.
Radiant saw consolidated revenues up 11.1% to NT$2.783 billion (US$84 million) in July while shipments of its small- to medium-size and LCD TV applications both enjoyed over a 30% on month growth, according to the company.
Coretronic posted consolidated revenues in July totaling NT$5.634 billion, up 32% on year but down 1.6% on month, according to the company.
As demand for LCD monitor-use BLUs was slowing, Coretronic shipped 5.29 million BLUs in July, down 3% from 5.46 million in June. Consolidated sales from its BLU business also dropped nearly 3% sequentially to NT$4.28 billion for the month.
Shipments for Coretronic's front projectors reached 52,000 units in July, up from 21% on month. As the products have entered the strong season, the company expects shipments to grow further throughout the third quarter.
Another BLU maker, Kenmos Technology, reported its consolidated revenues jump 22.4% sequentially to NT$694 million in July. The company began shipping LED-based BLUs for notebook panels in July with a monthly order volume to reach 50,000 units between August and September, said the company.
Shipments of Kenmos' LCD monitor-use BLUs set a record last month of NT$450,000-460,000 units. Shipments for the company's notebook-use BLUs also increased to 130,000 units, up 18% on month while shipments for TV applications grew 25% to 100,000 units during the period. As TV-use BLUs have lower gross margins, shipments for the segment will decrease in August. Overall, sales for August will remain flat, said the company.
