Taiwan market: Samsung, LG expect strong sales of IT and consumer electronics in 2005

Both Samsung Electronics Taiwan (SET) and LG Electronics Taiwan Taipei (LGETT), the Taiwan marketing subsidiary for the LG Group, expect to have strong sales growth next year, with SET aiming to have revenues of NT$10 billion (about US$313 million) and LGETT revenues of around US$500 million in 2005.

Ko You Chan, general manager of SET, indicated that SET expects to see sales of its display products – including LCD, PDP and rear-projection TVs (RPTVs) – to be more than double those of 2004 and the display segment and other home appliances to contribute more than 10% of its total sales in 2005. IT products such as LCD monitors and mobile phones, on the other hand, will continue to be the major products driving sales.

Park Soo Heum, LGETT chairman, also indicated that both the consumer-electronics and IT segments will account for one-third of its 2005 sales.

LGETT is pretty confident about the Taiwan PDP-TV market and expects to sell 30,000 PDP TVs in 2005, with ten more 42-inch models to be introduced, according to the Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN).
