Global PV market, 2011
Special Report | May 11, 2011
Major reductions in subsidy levels are occurring across the major European PV markets in 2011. As European markets account for 80% of global demand, this will have a decisive effect on supply and demand in the global PV industry. However, the PV markets of India, the US, Canada, Australia and other countries also have a great deal of growth momentum, which could even be sufficient to offset the impact of weakening European demand. Digitimes Research estimates that, spurred on by emerging PV markets, the global PV market will reach 21.5GWp, representing 17.8% growth on the 2010 figure.

PV inverter market overview
Special Report | March 31, 2011
Tight PV inverter demand in 2010 led to the segment becoming a bottleneck for PV system installation and grid connections. As a result, PV inverter manufacturers have actively expanded production capacity to address this situation, and capacity is estimated to have boomed to 40GW at the end of 2010. The market has attracted investment from numerous Taiwan- and China-based firms and competition and strategy will determine who can successfully grab share in a market forecast to hit 24.5GWp in shipments in 2011.
Survey of upstream LED component industry
Special Report | February 25, 2011
As demand has increased for downstream LED application products such as LED TVs and LED lighting, the upstream LED industry has become more proactive in expanding production capacity, leading to large-scale growth for MOCVD, sapphire and LED chip manufacturers. However, in 2010, sapphire manufacturers were more conservative about expanding capacity than MOCVD machinery makers, resulting in tight supply. For 2011, sapphire manufacturers are maintaining a favorable outlook for demand growth for substrates and consequently the world's seven largest manufacturers will increase capacity by close to 100%.
Overview of China's 12th Five-Year Plan
Special Report | January 31, 2011
China's 12th Five-Year Plan makes it clear that the county, which overtook Japan in 2010 to become the world's number two economy, has now turned its attention from the pursuit of national strength to increasing its people's prosperity. It places far greater emphasis on internal markets and domestic demand than ever before, and includes industrial structures that emphasize added value. China's 12th Five-Year Plan also sets out seven major new strategic industries, for which investment is projected to reach CNY10 trillion over the next five years; the sheer scale of the commercial opportunities created needs no further explanation. This report looks at the core directions for development in China's 12th Five-Year Plan.
