Digitimes Research: Taiwan makers see large-size TFT LCD panel shipments down 5.9% in 4Q12
Tony Huang, DIGITIMES Research, Taipei [Monday 21 January 2013]

Large-size (9-inch and above) TFT LCD panel shipments from Taiwan makers were down 5.9% on quarter in the fourth quarter of 2012 at 67.19 million units largely due to a 12.8% decline in shipments for notebook applications, according to Digitimes Research.

Taiwan-based panel makers decreased their proportion of 32-inch TV panel shipments and instead bumped up 39- and 50-inch TV panel shipments. China-based panel makers meanwhile reported 32-inch TV panel shipment growth due to popularity of the panel size in China's market, said Digitimes Research.

Digitimes Research also noted that major China-based panel maker BOE's TV panel shipments grew 14.2% on quarter while China Star Optoelectronics Technology's (CSOT) TV panel shipments rose 55.9% on quarter to 5.58 million units.

Additionally, Taiwan-based panel makers' shipments for panels used in tablet products sized 9-inch and above were down 4.5% during the time period, added Digitimes Research.
