Digitimes Research: New bio-technology helps to expand natural gas resources Enoki Chen, DIGITIMES Research, Taipei [Friday 7 December 2012]
Due to the discovery of new reserves, the amount of natural gas in the US has increased rapidly, pushing the price to a historical low. Nevertheless, at the same time, the price of natural gas in Asia continues to be high. Bio-technological breakthroughs which can turn coal into natural gas is allowing Europe and Asia to join the natural gas revolution. In addition, natural gas currently cannot be a main fuel for transportation, hence it has more limitations compared to crude oil, according to Digitimes Research. But with improvements to bio-technology, the oxidative coupling of methane, a method that was previously abandoned, has resurfaced into focus. This method may help to expand applications for natural gas, and may lead to ways for natural gas to replace crude oil. |
