Digitimes Research: Iljin Display expected to become number one touch screen supplier in Korea by the end of 2012
Ricky Tu, DIGITIMES Research, Taipei [Thursday 27 December 2012]

Korea-based touch panel maker Iljin Display is expected to reach the number one spot in Korea in terms of revenues generated from touch panel shipments in 2012, according to Digitimes Research.

Iljin has already generated approximately US$390 million in revenues from the first quarter throughout the third quarter in 2012 largely due to supplying its products to Samsung Electronics, and the figure is expected to increase even further by the end of the year, said Digitimes Research.

The expected increase will push Iljin ahead of other Korea-based touch panel makers Melfas, Electro Luminescence Korea (ELK) and Smart Mobile Application Company (SMAC) in touch screen panel revenues during 2012, all of which used to hold top spot positions in Korea from 2009-2011 in terms of revenues generated, added Digitimes Research.

Meanwhile, Taiwan-based TPK has already generated US$3.87 billion in revenues in the first three quarters of 2012, which will help put TPK at both the number one spot globally and also in Taiwan in terms of revenues generated from touch screen shipments by the end of 2012, noted Digitimes Research.
