Digitimes Research: Taiwan makers to ship over 17 million handsets in 4Q12

Taiwan-based OBMs (own-brand manufacturers), ODMs and IDM (joint-design manufacturers) will ship an estimated 17.14 million handsets in total during the fourth quarter of 2012, growing 7.1% on quarter but slipping 13.4% on year. 16.13 million (94.1%) of the total will be smartphones, showing sequential growth of 12.8% and on-year growth of 17.8%, according to Digitimes Research.

WCDMA models will account for 69.7% of the shipment volume, CDMA for 27.1% and GSM for 3.2%.

Smartphone vendor HTC will lead in shipment volumes with eight million units, followed by Chi Mei Communication Systems with four million units, Compal Communications with 2.4 million, Arima Communications with 1.7 million units and Inventec Appliances with 600,000 units.
