Digitimes Research: Taiwan makers see 2Q12 LCD TV shipments hit 8-quarter low

Taiwan-based makers shipped 8.307 million LCD TVs in total during the second quarter of 2012, the lowest in eight quarters with a sequential decrease of 2.3% and on-year drop of 29.8%, according to Digitimes Research. The five largest makers, TPV Technology, Compal Electronics, Foxconn Electronics, Wistron and Amtran Technology, together shared 91.6% of the shipments. In terms of screen sizes, 32-inch models accounted for 42.5% of the shipments, 40-42-inch 25.9%, below 30 inches 16.3%, 46-48 inch 8.6%, 37-39 inch 4.8% and 50 inches or more 1.9%. The North America market accounted for 47.1% of the shipments, followed by Asia with 23.4%, Europe with 19.3% and others with 10.2%.
