Digitimes Research: Greater China solar product price decreases slightly Jackie Chang, DIGITIMES, Taipei [Friday 25 November 2011]
The spot price of solar products in Greater China continued to show slight decreases his week (November 21-25) except the 125 mono wafers, according to Chihheng Liang, analyst of Digitimes Research. The spot price of polysilicon to decreased to US$26/kg from US$28/kg last week. The decrease was due to oversupply in the market, added Liang. As demand for solar products remained weak, some firms continued lowering capacity utilization. Hence the price of polysilicon continued dropping and moving closer to US$25/kg. The price of 125 mono wafers increased slightly this week due to shortage. In Taiwan, the price range of 125 mono wafers has been around US$1.15-1.20/unit. The spot prices of solar cells have been experiencing slight decreases but the drops have been easing off. However, firms with solar cells that have lower conversion efficiencies have been clearing out inventory causing the downward pressure of the prices. Also, the price difference between tier-one and tier-two solar firms widened this week, concluded Liang.
