Taiwan-based motherboard maker Micro-Star International (MSI) has set 2009 as its initial year of shifting business focus from ODM/OEM to OBM (own-brand manufacturer), and expects own-brand sales to account for 65% of its consolidated revenues for the year, according to company chairman Joseph Hsu.
In 2008, the ratio of MSI's ODM/OEM business to OBM business was 55% to 45% and the company expects to raise the proportion of the OBM to 65% in 2009, Hsu noted.
MSI's total combined notebook and netbook shipments in 2008 were half own-brand and half to OEM customers, according to previous reports.
For 2009, MSI will focus its marketing in Western Europe, while paying more attention to its risk management strategies for Eastern Europe to prevent exchange rate losses.
In additional news, MSI plans to showcase three new Wind Neton all-in-one PCs at CeBIT this year including the 20-inch AE2010 with AMD CPU and 780G chipset, a new performance motherboard the Eclipse Plus, and a military-specific graphics card the N260GTX Lightning 216.
