Smartphone SoC specialist MediaTek has reported consolidated revenues of NT$16.84 billion (US$574.3 million) for January 2018, down 9.7% sequentially and 8.1% on year.

MediaTek's revenues for January 2018 were also the lowest levels since March 2016.

MediaTek expects to post revenues between NT$48.3 billion and NT$53.2 billion in the first quarter of 2018, which represent a sequential decline of 12-20%, while gross margin will range from 35.5% to 38.5% compared to 37.4% in the prior quarter.

MediaTek's shipments of mobile SoCs will fall to 75-85 million units in the first quarter from 110-120 million units in the fourth quarter of 2017, said company CEO Rick Tsai at a recent investors meeting, adding that shipments for IoT applications will also register a seasonal drop.
