Taiwan's small- to medium-size panel makers face strong competition in the handset sector from Japan- and Korea-based firms in the high-end segment and from China-based suppliers in the entry-level segment. Taiwan-based makers' handset panel shipments dropped more than 25% in first-quarter 2014.
