Computex 2009: Tyan Yellow River series target cloud computing
Press release; Rodney Chan, DIGITIMES [Thursday 4 June 2009]

Tyan has announced its new Yellow River (YR) series products during the Computex Taipei 2009 (Booth M112). Tyan YR features high computing density for both enterprise and IPDC applications. Tyan is also showcasing the latest platforms supporting the new six-core AMD Opteron processors (codename: Istanbul) and the Intel Xeon 5500 processors (codename: Nehalem) at Computex.

The YR series brings in the new era for cloud computing. It doubles the computing power within the same rack space compared to traditional implementation, according to the company.

Tyan is exhibiting four different YR products at Computex for different application segments. YR170-B520M is a low power-consuming server platform for IPDC environment; YR188-B537M consumes on average 150W in most enterprise applications; YR190-B7018 and YR290-B7018 are both dual-socket platforms with different in-place expandability, and which can take over traditional 1U/2U dual-socket platforms in enterprises and IPDCs.

In addition to the newly introduced YR series platforms, Tyan is showcasing seven platforms supporting Intel Xeon 5500 series processors. Tyan S7025, the company's latest Tyan Nehalem platform, supports up to 64GB R-DDR3 memory. TYAN S7025 will be in mass production in late June. The other six Tyan solutions are all currently shipping.

Furthermore, two new Tyan platforms support the new six-core AMD Opteron processors built on 45nm technology and will be mass production in late June. Tyan platforms supporting previously launched quad-core AMD Opteron processors (codename: Shanghai) can be upgraded to the new technology by a BIOS update.
