The falling prices for 7-inch LCD panels may spur digital photo frame makers into increasing their orders in the second half of the year, according to industry observers.
Panel makers are already receiving more inquiries from digital photo frame makers concerning the 7-inch segment, but whether orders will actually increase remains to be seen, the observers added.
Brand-name digital photo frame makers showed reluctance in placing large orders for 7-inch analog panels when prices rose to as much as US$30, the observers said.
But with overall small- to medium-size panel prices sliding recently, the prices for the 7-inch segment have fallen back to US$25, and may go down further below US$20 in the second half of the year, they said.
Some panel makers are already selling 7-inch panels at discounted prices, ranging from 8-10% lower than the market average of US$25, the observers indicated.
Prices for small- to medium-size panels are falling due to increased supply from Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) and HannStar Display amid weak demand, the observers said.
