Global notebook shipment to fall 10% in 2Q, say Taiwan makers
Celia Lin, Taipei; Esther Lam, DIGITIMES [Wednesday 21 June 2006]

A weak notebook market is unlikely to see improvements this quarter and Taiwan notebook makers estimate global shipments will drop 10% sequentially in the second quarter, according to the makers.

Although Intel's CPU price cuts did spur demand in June, increased demand did not compensate for the earlier lull in the market, as poor shipments in April and May, as well as the first quarter, has led to a disappointing first half of the year for notebook makers, industry players commented.

Notebook sales are being constrained by the delay of the new Windows Vista operation system (OS), as buyers are putting off their purchases, the makers noted. Uncertainty in the market amid a price war between Intel and AMD is also affecting sales, the makers noted.
