China-based foundry Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) and DRAM maker Elpida Memory today jointly announced that Elpida's 512Mbit DDR2 SDRAM, manufactured using a 90nm manufacturing process at SMIC's 300mm facility in Beijing, has successfully been qualified.
Based on the success of the qualification of the 90nm products, Elpida will start considering the installation in SMIC of Elpida's advanced processes for future products, said Yukio Sakamoto, president and CEO of Elpida.
The two companies started their partnership on DRAM production from 2002 on 0.13-micron production node. They continued their partnership with 0.10-micron in 2004, following the signing of a five-year 0.10-micron DRAM production agreement in 2003.
