A-Data Technology (Computex Taipei Hall 1, Booths D226-D236, D325-D335), ranked by iSuppli as the number three third-party DRAM-module supplier in the world and number one in Asia for the last two years, is hoping to attract overclockers, gamers and PC enthusiasts at this year's Computex by showcasing its Vitesta Extreme Edition modules. When this product line was first displayed earlier this year at CeBIT, it only included one product - the DDR-500+. Since then, the company has added five more products to the family and it now consists of three DDR and three DDR2 module offerings, ranging from DDR-400+ to DDR2-1000+. Utilizing x16 DRAM components from an undisclosed supplier, all the products currently appear with capacities of up to 2GB.
The key idea behind the Vitesta Extreme Edition product line is to give power users a chance to get hold of an overclocking memory solution, which is designed and tested for performance and stability by a memory module house, without needing to overclock standard DRAM modules by themselves. The product line features low latencies (for example, DDR2-667+ modules are designed to support 3-3-3 timing rates versus industry-standard 5-5-5 for DDR2-667, while DDR2-900+ and DDR2-1000+ both provide 5-5-5 latencies) and performance indexes that look similar to standard DRAM frequencies, but not necessarily repeat them. In April, the first month since the product line was formally launched in its current form, A-Data indicated that it shipped about 3,000 Vitesta Extreme Edition modules.
