Taiwan market: Global Mobile to launch HTC WiMAX smartphone

Global Mobile, a WiMAX operator in the northern Taiwan region, has revealed it will launch the HTC EVO Shift, a WiMAX smartphone customized for the carrier, in late May. Global Mobile has launched the 7G Miracle, a 3G/WiMAX dual-mode smartphone produced on an ODM basis by Taiwan-based Gemtek Technology. Global Mobile has applied for technological shift from WiMAX to the China-developed TD-LTE with Taiwan's National Communications Commission (NCC), the company said. Global Mobile began laboratory testing of TD-LTE equipment in March 2012 and will select five areas in northern Taiwan to undertake trial operation, the company indicated.
