Taiwan-based WiMAX operator Global Mobile holds an optimistic outlook for its 2011 business operation aiming for a net addition of 160,000 subscribers and monthly revenues of over NT$100 million (US$3.26 million), according to company chairwoman Rosemary Ho. Global Mobile has constructed 1,000 WiMAX base stations to cover a population of 7.5 million and will set up 1,000 more to reach total coverage of 8-9 million people by the end of 2011, Ho said. With more than 10,000 subscribers currently, Global Mobile expects to expand its user base to 250,000 to attain break-even operation in 2012, Ho indicated. In line with this goal, Global Mobile has applied with the National Communications Commission (NCC) for release of WiMAX phone numbers for voice communication service, Ho said, adding NCC is expected to approve it as early as December 2010. Global Mobile is also likely to strike a deal to deliver the local Next TV's content through its WiMAX network, according to industry sources.
